The Ten Words (commonly known as the Ten Commandments)

1

I am God your Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, from the place of slavery.

2

Do not have any other gods before Me.

3

Do not take the name of God your Lord in vain.

4

Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy.

5

Honor your father and mother.

6

Do not commit murder.

7

Do not commit adultery.

8

Do not steal.

9

Do not testify as a false witness against your neighbor.

10

Do not be envious of your neighbor's wife, his slave, his maid, his ox, his donkey, or anything else that is your neighbor's.

Notes:

·   Commandment 1 is not a commandment at all; it’s a statement.

·   Commandment 6 says ‘murder’ not ‘kill’.  This is an important distinction and has been mis-translated by some Christian bibles.

·   Dennis Prager has a great lecture on the Ten Commandments available from his website.
