Gun Control

The 2nd Amendment says: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Madison and Hamilton added this language to the Bill of Rights to assuage the concern of states that the federal government would call up state militias as part of the federal army and disband the militias leaving the states unprotected.

That is, the founding father’s wanted to protect from the federal government the right of the states to maintain militias.  These days we call these militias the National Guard.  This is not about the right of individuals to carry arms.  If we allow individuals to carry arms, where does it end?  Can they carry armor piercing 50 caliber automatic rifles?  How about Bazookas or mortar launchers?  What about dirty atomic bombs?  I don’t believe the founders meant for this amendment to grant absolute rights to bear arms by individual.
